Forest Homes

Did you know that rainforests are home to some of
the rarest and unusual animals and plants on earth!
Unfortunately, if action isn't taken to protect
the rainforests, by about the year 2035, there will
be a little bit of rainforests left. There are more
people on earth today than at any other time in
history! The need for both food and land to grow
on is great. Rainforests are being destroyed
as people clear the land ot make room for houses
and farming. Almost all of the remaining rainforests
are found in Third World countries. These poor nations
see the forests as a valuable resource to be sold for
profit. In some countries, the sale of timber can
finance needed hospitals and schools, as well as aid
in economic growth.

The evergreen tropical rainforest occupies about 4
million square miles of the wettest land in the world!
The animals and plants of this rainforest coexist in a
unique balance with a climate that they largely create
themselves. Mearly all life is concentrated in the treetops.
